Trump has defended his decision to give his dogs faux fur, saying it is a “sad day” when the government bans fur.
“The only reason it’s banned is because of the fur coats that are being made and imported into the country,” Trump told the Associated Press in an interview published on Sunday.
The president, who has faced criticism from animal rights activists for his decision, said he would keep using the fur coat for his dogs.
The fur coats were first banned in Canada last year, after a federal court ruled that the fur had been used as “human fur”.
The Trump administration has said it will allow fur to be imported, but that it will have to use a certain percentage of imported fur.
Trump, who first made his mark in the world of politics by being a businessman, has since become a social media sensation and an anti-abortion campaigner.
He has also appeared in a number of videos, most recently a “faux” ad for the “Trump fur coat”.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, he said he wanted to ban all fur in America.
“I’m not for a single bit of fur,” he said.
“It’s sad and racist and very sad.
We should just let it go.”
Trump’s decision to ban fur from the US comes as US President Donald Trump, centre, talks with a man on the streets of Washington, on May 26, 2017.
